Maybe I'm thinking too much into this, but is there really a reason for me to be here? Am I really needed by others, or do I just believe that I am needed? Do the others really need me, or do they think they need me? Did I truly have regret of wanting to kill myself, believing that the others want me alive? Does it truly matter that I am still alive? Do I care or do they care?

Is there some sort of joke that I'm not getting...?

I would say that 90% of the human population is made up of sadists, and the other half is made up of masochists, which what we might be. Then again, I don't really enjoy what they bring upon me. But no one did say that it's going to stop.
